This is the last of the 1946 series – this time of the Hong Kong University building. Not sure where it’s located or how the damage was sustained, but I’m sure the regular blog commentators will fill in the details!

Since I started this series, I’ve received photos from other sources – if there’s interest I’ll  post some of these too….let me know.

HK 1946 - HKU

Ok, this is the penultimate photo of the 1946 series – this time a view of the eastern harbour from the peak. I have an almost exact replica of this shot here….

Eastern harbour today

Back in Central District with this one – Statue Square looking north-east (I think). Any ideas what the building in the background to the left is?

Another from the 1946 series – this time of Nathan Road looking north.

There is some debate amongst those close to tressillian about where this photo was taken. Any ideas – please leave comments below.

HK 1946 - Kowloon Tong

This time it’s a view from the Peak towards Kowloon. Obviously masses of change since 1946 – check out the following link to see what it looks like now!

This is a photo of the Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry terminus – looking towards what is now the Ocean Terminal. The ship in the background is a bit of a give-away….it’s exactly where the passenger cruise ship come in to this day. In the far background are Stonecutters Island and Lantau…..

This is the second of the 1946 series – this time of Kai Tak airport. Unfortunately this photo was slightly damaged – I have tried to digitally repair some of the worst staining. Check out the sea-planes on the harbour!

HK1946 -

This is the first of nine photographs taken in post-occupation Hong Kong in 1946. This shot is of Central district with the old Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank building centre-frame. In the foreground is the original Hong Kong cricket club and Hong Kong Club. Victoria Peak is in the background. I can remember all of these buildings from my youth – of particular curiosity was the children’s exercise club that took place on Saturday afternoons on the cricket pitch – it was run by Billy somebody-or-other. All the chidren wore whites – including old-fashioned polo shirts. Anybody else remember that?

The photographer is unknown – so the copyright is unclear.
